Largo
Fl. 1980. This is the headdress that launched my career. It had begun a
couple of weeks earlier when I had been playing with a new belt I had just
designed (a Full drape, it's still a winner) and had placed it on my knee
and I thought "that hangs nice and the knee is shaped like a head
....I wonder.... so I go to the mirror and hold this belt up to my head
and I think COOL I got to try a headdress. So I work two weeks and I got
this thing close and bring it to faire. for a day and a half I try it on
everyone I can catch making little adjustments with each one. Finally I
try it on this woman and I declare it done. She had tried it earlier in
the day and she say's great! How much? I'm caught totally unprepared and
didn't know what to say. So her husband hands me a hundred dollar bill
and they leave me still speechless while they argue over who's office it's
to be displayed in when they get back to N.Y. I think they were architects
but I'm not sure. The next revolution can a couple years later when I finally
stopped resisting the use of elastic and started making headbands as a
more affordable and versatile alternative.
